an interesting question

cjclayton Feb 21, 2005 09:28 PM

Greetings all,
I have an interesting question, I have a female african rock python approximately 11 months old who eats 3 small rats a week, yet is still only 4 1/2 feet long and as thick as your index fingre . She has been to the vet and has no known infections or parasites yet my vet who also is a reptile expert and works ay my locla zoo is baffled at her small size and so am I. I was just wondering is there any know specimens of a dwarf rock python or is this usual for young rock pythons? This is the first time I have worked with them my normal specimens are ball and burmese pythons. Any information would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Joseph Clayton

This almost sounds unreal. As thick as your index finger at 11months? He should be thicker than your arm at that age. I am tempted to say to give him much larger prey but even at the rate youre feeding, he should still be larger. Is it possible that its not 11 months old but maybe a fraction of that age? Unless youve owned it since it was a hatchling. I've personally never heard of a dwarf rock.

A 4.5 foot long corn snake is larger than my index finger. It sounds a little "unreal". I have never heard of a dwarf rock python (not knowing how big the Natal rocks get). Post a photo of the snake with something for size comparison. Just sounds really "odd".

hopefully I will have my camera working by the end of the day, if not I will take the picture with my web cam. I find this to be incredibly strange and my vet does to. I bring her in everymonth with stool samples and they have no idea whats going on especially since they have been seeing her since I bought her at 6 weeks old. Also if someone could tell me on here how to post pictures or E-mail me with the directions that would be very helpful. I am very computer illiterate
Sincerely,
Joseph Clayton
