Update and questions

Hi all, just to let ya know i've started the antibiotic treatment for my leo and as of yet there is no change. The vet has run all the tests she can and has found nothing wrong so this is the last hope. He is drinking off and on and will eat every few days but he still looks aweful! Hopefully this med will help him out. (keeping fingers crossed)

I do have 2 questions i wanted to pose to the forum:
First, will keeping mealworms in the fridge prevent them from turning into beetles?
Second, i have a huge tank that i've set up for leos and i wish to install a UTH, my question is, having used ceramic textured tiles as substrate where do i put the UTH? Under the tank itself or in the tank under the tile? If in the tank is it best to place it on one piece of tile and then put another on top, maybe 2 more on top (to prevent it from getting to hot?), instead of putting it directly on the glass?

Any help is very much appreciated I don't plan on getting any more geckos until i can get my leo well again. I've got my hands full with him and my "escape determined" Crested gecko Zeek LOL. Its the building and setting up of the tanks that i really enjoy......i should go into business LMAO

Thanks
Red

If you install the UTH on the tile in the tank you will need a space between the UTH and the bottom of the tank for air flow(hope you understand that) otherwise the heat will more than likely crack your tank bottom. UTH's get very hot, one way to control the temp is to layer substrate to a thickness needed to get the proper surface temp. I use almost 2 inches of sand. Your tiles would probably work that way and you may even need thicker or a rheostat to control the temp.

Thanks for you responce From what i've read about the rheostat i'll be getting one for sure. I like the idea of controlling the temp.

Once the tank is setup i'll post a pic for all to see.

Thanks again

Keeping mealies in the fridge will prevent them from pupating but it will also prevent them from gutloading as well since they go into hibernation. If you want to gutload them and want them to grow, you shouldn't put them in the fridge.
A reptile UTH is designed to go on the glass on the underside of the tank. There are little rubber feet that you put on the corners of the tank (which raises it off the floor) so the UTH will not cause a fire due to heat build up. Just follow the directions on the package.
Good luck with your leo! If he is eating a bit, and drinking then it means he is improving!!!

Thankyou I kinda figured the mealies would go into hibernation.....was just hoping to gutload for 24-48 hours before i fed them once out of the fridge. Right now i have a container full of beetles since my leo stopped eating them completely. The tank i was talking about is already raised up off the shelving unit so i'm already a step ahead

Thanks again for your input
