What do you think of this Anery

cee4 Feb 21, 2005 09:48 PM

he has absolutely no yellow anywhere..Will he be good future breeder.Im a newbie to breeding an dont intend to try till he grows up. Id really like to breed Blizzards and Im under the impression that I need an Anery B(charcoal) and a Amelanistic(Albino). Is this right? And what are my chances of getting a Blizzard out of a litter?

Thanks

nice looking anery. It may develope yellow as it grows or may not. Yes blzzard is aneryB(chacoal) and amel. You would not get blizzard by breeding the two together, unless they had hidden genes for the other color trait. You could get blizzards in the next generation by breeding the siblings together. Corn snakes lay egg , They don't have liters.

They would have to have hidden Blizzard genes? What if I only knew that the female(Amel.) had the genes? Then what are my chances of getting a blizzard..And also what would the other babies look like, the mother or the father?

Sorry for calling them litters...Been dealing with too many rats..

What is hatched depends on the genes of the parents. if the male is anery, and the female albino, each with no other hidden genes, all the babies hatched will be normal looking het for both anery and albino, or het snow. To create a snow each snake needs both anery and amel (albino) genes. Depending on what the snakes genes are the outcome will be different, and I do not believe breeding two snows togehter will produce a blizzard, the closest thing you could get would be a snow with a very faint pattern.

If you have two snows, both of which are het for anery B, then (statisically) 25% of the resulting offspring should be homozygous for anery A, anery B, and amel. Are those animals blizzards?

I'm not sure what you call such a critter, but if the animal is homozygous anery B and amel, and it exhibits the blizzard "look"...I would have no problem calling that animal a blizzard, and the fact that it also was homozygous for anery A would simply be a bonus.

They don't all show it, and some only ever show a small amount, regardless of how long they live. However, if your anery will show yellow on its neck, it should do so somewhere between now and one year old.

Hope that helps a bit....

when combining albino and anery genes you will get a snow. It doesn't matter whether it's type A or B, but I think the type b snows are whiter. to get a blizzard i believe you have to have a combo of hypo, albino and anery. I've seen some stunning blizzards and i've seen some that looked like very nice snow's. It would be a fun project to embark on for a beginning breeder that will give you years of enjoyment and surprises. Hope this helps.

If you want to get a Blizzard then your best bet would indeed be to go out and get one. I'm doing it the long/hard way by breeding together two snakes capable of producing Blizards but both bought as hatchlings. Been waiting 3 years so far and at least another year to go until they are ready to breed. The female is not big enough this year. Plus then there is no guarantee that the first clutch will result in any Blizzards at all. Both snakes are het for Blizzard (het for both Amel and Anery B) but that's no guarantee that any of the babies will be Blizzards. So could be another several years till one actually hatches. So unless you can wait several years to get one by doing a breeding project with hets, I say go for it and just order yourself a little Blizzard now. Good luck!
