If I said mammal, I really should get checked for learning disorders. haha

Anyone can see that's some sort of amphibian. The orange throated salamander, I believe...

Hi Christine & Goon,

Hopefully she is gravid, and will nest soon. This is from today.

Thanks

Just another pic, just cause I felt like it...

The ackie under the light laid eggs 2 weeks ago. I seem to have problems with males or lack thereof.

My "Peachie" is still young but likes to hide most of time, this is ok but I would like to see it from time to time. Research shows these guys are nervouse but I've seen alot of nice photos you have posted...Did you do anything special or did they calm down on there own?

the 'research' or books about jobiensis being categorically shy or nervous. I think all that you can buy are like that, but I think this has more to do with their history than what they are. The pictures can be deceiving, sometimes I do not see a particular animal for days on end, and there have been times I have not seen one for weeks on end.

Overall, all my monitors (except in certain circumstances) spend a great deal of time hidden away. That is the benefit on having more than a couple, there is typically always someone out.

I am not really sure that my methods are all that great, it seems on average to take over a year for me to get a w.c. juvenile or adult to eat like it should, and treat me more as an intruder than a threat.

The only real constants I feel is important, is feeding off of tongs and persistance. Food builds more trust than anything else IMHO. Once I get them eagerly pulling food off the tongs, everything else seems to come real quick.

I do not handle the monitors much, most of them are not very fond of it.

Good Luck,

I don't really expect to be handling it much, but he seems to be over the eating thing. He eats daily now but I just put the food item in the enclosure because I am usually on my way to work in the morning but when I come home it's gone. Over the last few days though, when I go down to feed and spray the cage, it has been out and about. I think I will try the tongs. Thanks for the info...

what darling ackies!! i'm quite fond of mine. the problem with ackies is that they are naturally rather round in the tummy, so we hand no clue ours was gravid until eggs started appearing in her cage. eek!

good luck with hatching yours.
