Question on where to put the heat

Savvgawd Feb 22, 2005 12:27 AM

Sounds like a dumb question but I've been thinking about it. I don't know what to do about the belly heat. I have a 60 watt bulb that basically simulates day/night and gives off a little heat, but the UTH is the main source. Now the question is where to put it? I had it underneath her water since she spent so much time in her bowl, that way the water stayed nice and warm. Now she is spending a lot of time out of water and when I take her out shes ice cold. So should I keep the heat in her hide spot and let the water get cold or keep the water warm and have a cold hide spot?

I often deal with an ice cold anaconda myself and this is usually when I have her water not on the heat. I would suggest using another heat pad. All my snakes are in a controlled room so even if my water doesnt feel warm there are pretty good odds it is 75-80 degrees since this is where my room is kept and most enclosures are a bit warmer. Maybe have part of the water on the pad and have a hide on there as well. I have done this plenty of times. What it seems to me is the anacondas will use the water and the hides no matter what temp they are so offering multiple hides is your ideal situation.
