How did they get their start? Was it a wild caught bred and re-bred or was it from selectively breeding pythons showing striped tendencies?

as with any of the true genetic mutations they all have started out in the wild. we have mixed the morphs do create designer morphs that would more than likely not show up in the wild. as far as the genetic stripe, bob clark was the first to reproduce it. I'm not sure if he imported it but on his website he does state first produced here. there are several people working on proving out black stripe animals but from the ones i've seen they are not as dramatic as the gold genetic stripe. hope this helps

Tracy Barked produced Genetic Stripes a couple months before Bob Clark did. She was working with hets from Bob Clark. So, Tracy Barked proved the Genetic Stripes genetic.
Bob Clark also claims to have produced the first albino granite burmese...........although, he was #3.........not #1.
