Some Colombian boas I haven't posted in a while (photos)

RioBravoReptiles Feb 22, 2005 11:14 AM

.. these are the parents of those big-tailed, hypo-looking babies that I sometimes show off. They were born here from boas I acquired early in the '90s.. The females (bottom photos) are 7' now and the male about 5-1/2'.

Those are just simply stunning Gus. And the babies they produces were off the charts. I am a morph guy, but I still have a thing for beautiful normals.

Here is one of my favorite pure Colombians. At least she is pure Colombian to the best of my knowledge.

nothing implied...
whether it was intended or not, that baby is a high quality pastel and a Beautiful Colombian Boa!

That adult male reminds me a bit of what the Boawoman's animals look like... some have said she has a 'new' line of colombians.... well they are definitely different.. i'll tell you that!

and those females definitely have something going on with all that color.. beautiful animals...

I'll tell you.. although I have not dealt with large male 'pure' colombians in some time, that male sure is impressive to say the least!

Keep up the great work Gus.

Thanks, Joe

What the heck is a 'Pastel' boa?

I mean, I see lots of pretty boas that look pastel and some people have boas that are lighter or more pink than others and you could say they are more 'pastel' than other boas that look 'pastel'. I see very pretty Pastel boas from top lines of Pastel boas! but I also see boas that look to me to be identical just in any litter of boas bred for color and reduced markings.

In my opinion only, (and that has less weight in some areas than others!) this is one of those traits that is not clearly defined and is present to a greater or lesser extent in a large segment of the captive population.. What I see is that a boa that is pastel is worth $X , whereas a Pastel boa is advertised for $3X.

At Daytona guys are bringing boas in cups over to my table, comparing them to my common boas. Counting specks and looking for whether the saddles are butterflies or not and and more! They have a list of barely identifiable traits they shop for.. they put their heads together and then take one or more of my 'just a Colombian' boas, claiming they just saved a wad of cash... well, whatever makes them happy!.. but it is the way it is all put together that makes a nice boa.. and thank goodness for that!

How's that for a near rant!?
