blizzard or patternless

waldo Feb 22, 2005 12:05 PM

I was given an adult leo a couple of weeks ago,I had thought she was a patternless but now I'm not sure.I have been looking at pictures of patterless and they are more yellow then mine is and I have seen some pictures of blizzards that are the same tan color as mine. How can I tell the two apart? I found a picture that looks almost identical to mine but mine has some yellowish orange on her tail and no white on her belly. I will try to get some pictures soon.
look alike to my leo

Well, I don't have a definitive answer for you, but I have some comments plus I'm also interested in hearing what other people have to say about this. I don't have blizzards only patts. I'm thinkin yours is probably a patternless, because...

1) I've never seen blizards with orange on the tail but patts yes.

2) patternless do come in various shades from the tan color like in the blizzard pic you showed to bright yellow and white, to really deep yellow.

3) what's your gecko's personality like? this isnt 100% definitive either, but patternless tend to be very tame and friendly and blizzards tend to be hell-beasty screamer-biters.

I assume the person who gave you the leo can't give you a definite answer either?

She is definatly tame, the people I got her from never held her in the entire year that they had her,at first she would try to bite but after a couple of days she calmed right down, will eat from my fingers and sit calmly and my hand.My hypo tang that I've had since she was a hatchling isn't even that tame. It doesn't really matter what morph she is but I am interested in getting a male for my girls and would like to choose a guy that will complement both my females.

I would still like to know what the difference is and how different people classify the two.I'll try to get some pictures up tommorow. Oh and as far as the orange on her tail goes, the color has only just showed up,I suppose it could be because she is feeling better now. When I first got her she had a bad shed and was losing toes plus she was impacted with sand.

I think you can be fairly sure she's a patternless then. As far as I know there's not a visual way to tell which it is. I was hoping an expert would post an answer and we could both learn something

The diff between patternless and blizzard is they are 2 different recessive genes. Even if they outwardly look very similar. If you breed a patternless with a blizzard you will get normals (they will be double hets but they will look like normals). Hey, that is the one sure way to know what she is! If yours is a patternless and you bred her with a patternless male, you will get ALL patternless babies. If she's a patternless and you bred her to a blizzard male, you will get black spotted leo babies lol.

And it sounds like you rescued her. good for ya!
