Suggest a Species

bast Feb 22, 2005 12:25 PM

Hello,

I currently breed bearded dragons and California kingsnakes. I would like to try a python. I am looking for a fairly small species that is good for a first time python breeder. I am not interested in ball pythons and I cannot afford womas. I really like the Indo-Australian species.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Brian

Well, they may be a little more pricey than normal balls, but I would suggest a Savu. If you are comfortable with maintaining adequate temp and humidity, they seem to do very well. They have a good reputation for eating like pigs. And they stay fairly small - around 4-5' max. Plus they look really cool. They are basically dwarf Macklot's.

Anyway, I am pretty new to the snake world, but from the research I have done and the very limited experience I have, Savu seems like an excellent starter snake if you don't mind shelling out around $150 for the critter.

There are more pics of Sophie the Savu in the "Savu" thread below.

Spotteds are great little snakes. They are easy to care for and have great dispositions in my experience
Carpets are also good snakes...they get larger than spotteds but are still great snakes
