i wouldn't use them for a number of reasons
they get very hot(which could be good as even a 20 watt halogen heats up fast but...) and onc e hot if they get wet they can explode, also they put out tons of light which might be too much for a cham.
im not sure on this one but i don't think they are made to stay on for very long.....unless you use the ones made for reef aquariums
i guess you could try useing those small landscape lights wich can be as cheap as $10 and see how well it works.
Halogens are better then normal spots because they give better light (some UV) without there protectingglass and produce more heat. Like for my jacksoni, im now using a halogen like they use on a constructing area, with low wattage ofcourse. For my rampholeons im not going to use halogen because the roomtemp is to high for it. there getting a philips PL and 25W spot.

I find that halogens are near the only means to lighting, next to UVB tubes and such. Wasting your money on those "special" lights at the pet store is just rediculous. Halogen provides a good source of light, if you get outdoor then it can get wet, and if you are having problem with something getting to hot, move it farther away from the cage. I use halogens on every rep that I own and if they/or the cage gets too hot they give me signals to move it farther away, also some help from teh temp gun!
