snake heating question

wayne13114 Feb 22, 2005 03:10 PM

I just read a post in the ratsnake forum about heating for snakes. it said that some north american colubrids do not require artificial heat. I was wondering what temps theese would be at? in the summer it easily hit 80 plus where I live, in NY i don't have AC. I was wondering if it would be ok to turn my heat pads of when the weather is 80 plus? I keep weternhognoses, fl kings, eastern garters and Eastern milks. possibly a few more species in the months to come, but they would be from the US though. thanks for any help

I always turned the heat off when the temps neared 80. Once you get up into that range with those snakes, you don't need extra heat and you don't WANT extra heat. I don't do a/c either, and that worked for me. I just moved my snakes into the basement, so I will probably need to keep my oil-filled heater running year-round down there now, but we'll just have to see. :D
