Questions on growth patterns of igs

Linda G Feb 22, 2005 04:10 PM

Happy to say Beanie is still doing OK. She is eating on her
own still (whew!) A year is a long time to syringe feed. She
is still getting 10 cc's of water and 1/2 tums daily to help with
pooping per the vet. She also continues to have a check-up
and blood work 2 times a year. She is due in a few months
again.

Digit is growing like a weed. I measured yesterday and he
is 1" shy of 3'STL. He continues to get a little more tame
and never would bite now or tail whip me. He is now closing
his eyes after his baths and enjoying his rub.

My question is how long do igs grow in length before gaining
weight to match their lengths? I hope this question makes
sense

When my iguana reached his full length of 6 ft is about when he started packin' on the pounds. He used to be trim his early life, but about the time he was 5 at full length, he started filling out. Now he's 15, and a little on the overweight side. I guess, to answer your question, it all really depends on its individual eating habits and on how well they are fed. Also on their activity level. My ig is like in senior citizen mode right now, so he doesn't really move very much, also adding to his little weight problem. Very beautiful ig btw.

I didn't realized they grow in length for that long. He is
only 1.5 years old and already 3'. I hope this is an indication
that he will be large. I would like him to be.

He is a great eater and is pretty active when compared to
my older one.

Thanks for the compliment on him. This is an older picture
I think he is even more beautiful now. His spikes are getting
large around his head. He looks so grown up. It is hard
to believe that when I adopted him at 4 months of age he had
MBD, a broken leg and was in poor shape.

This picture is when I first adopted him. He was so small

All in all he is pretty sweet too and he knows who his mama
is

Don't ya just love that? My ig still will only let me hold him without scratching me, and he's really calm while sitting on my lap, but doesn't seem too interested in anyone else. He's not aggressive or anything, just won't stay put for long. It's always good to hear about an adoption gone very well!
