Male or Female Black Rat?

kingkong Jul 07, 2003 06:53 PM

I have a Black Rat Snake, I found along the road. It's a young adult, measuring about 38". I was wondering if there's an easy way to determan weather it's male or female? I probably won't bread it but just curiouse what it is. Is there a quick easy method of sex ID?

Thanx, Dave

The easiest method besides probing would be to look at the tail. This isnt 100% accurate, but usually works.
If it is a male, the tail should be long and thin past the vent, if it is a female it should be fatter and shorter past the vent. If you have a known male and female, take a look at the tails beyond the vent.

Hope this helps
Brian
