Me again.
Yellowfoot's would work too, however they don't have the personality of Redfoot's. As for Herman's call George Ullman at www.turtleworldusa.com. He has been breeding Herman's, Ibera's, and Marginated for over 30 years and resides in Florida. That being said, some parts of Florida are as dry as Utah, but George could give you a good idea if Herman's, Ibera's, or Maginated torts can handle high humidity. Being that they are all captive born the odds are higher than wild caught ones.
Actually as I think about it, Spider tortoises would also do very well in Mass. They need high humidity and they can handle temps into the low 50's. Incredible shell color and they only get to about 5-6 inches long and need very little space. If you go the Tortoise Trust site (www.tortoisetrust.org) they have a care sheet on Spider's.
Good luck on your search.
