One of my sliders is swimming sideways?!

mathjock Feb 22, 2005 08:50 PM

I have a 2 year old yellow-belly slider that just started swimming with its shell at a 20 - 30 degree angle with the horizontal. I have never seen any of my turtles do that before and I am really concerned. Do I need to take him to the vet? Does anyone know a good vet in teh Central Florida area?

It could be a respiratory infection. You may want to consider bringing it to the vet for confirm is there is a problem.

Check out this Vet list to see if anyone is near you in Florida.

SORRY -- TO CONFIRM IF THERE IS A PROBLEM. LOL!! That's what happens when I do more than two things at a time.

I completly understand. I admire people who can "multitask".

My turtle is not listing as bad today and seems pretty active. Is this something he might get over like a cold or does he need meds like pnummonia?

Thank you for the website! and all your help to this forum!

My turtle was doing the same thing and she now swims in circles and upside down. Mine has a respiratory infection. It can be caused by cold drafts. Mine was caused when someone closed my room door while i was out for the day and my room got freezing cold which ultimately made the water in the tank a lot colder since i didnt have a full length hood at the time. I took mine to the vet and they deluted an antibiotic and gave me needles to inject the antibiotic into the muscley part of her shoulder every 72 hours.
