is it ok to feed fresh (dead) fish to my mud? i am a fisherman and have lots of scraps to give him if he can eat it. aren't turtles scavengers? i have heard that will eat carrion if they come across it in the wild. thanks.

Fish scraps are fine for mud turtles. I would feed in a seperate container though so you don't foul your tank.
I too fish and dive and depending on the time of year, my turtles get scraps from snook, snapper, grouper or lobster!
It would be good to feed other things too like some of the commercial pellet foods or frozen foods for tropical fish.
