Mud snakes

I was curious if anyone on here has ever had this species, and if anyone has ever tried breeding them in captivity? I would honestly love to have a pair and try breeding them so if anyone has bred them or know someone that has bred them and will or has cb babies available I would be interested in wanting to purchase them. I know they are supposed to be fussy eaters, and i'm sure the tank set up maybe difficult, but I would still love to keep this species and do whatever I could to provide them with proper food and housing.

are you talking about a Brahminy Blind Snake? I remember someone asking about this a few months ago, but I don't think they were able to find anything... maybe someone will remember more than I do about this. Good luck!

I have tried on a couple of occasions to keep mudsnakes (adults, juveniles, and hatchlings) and was unsuccessful. The adults will only eat sirens and amphiumas, and not all adults will eat in captivity. A FEW juvies will eat tadpoles or salamander larvae but eventually I suspect the grow to eat sirens, etc. So unless you have a dependable source of these aquatic salamanders, you won't have much luck.

Furthermore, Mudsnakes seem to dessicate very easily and can't be kept under normal "snake keeper" conditions. You have to provide them with moist substrate in which to burrow. If you give them a proper setup, you will probably not see them much.

Some mudsnakes will eat in captivity, many won't. They are shy, retiring snakes that don't appreciate handling or being disturbed.
Others with a lot of snake keeping experience have failed when they tried to keep mudsnakes.

Mud snakes do particularly well on wet spagnum moss. While the diet is difficult-sirens , amphiuma, etc...I actually have had one of two that a man I knew had that he got to eat pinkie mice. To achieve this the pinkies were was (alive) and then sented with amphibian slime. After a while it was no longer necessary to scent. All snakes involved in this were netonates.
