Problem with a premie baby normal....

ajfreptiles Feb 23, 2005 12:50 PM

I had a 2 litters of babies and one of the babies from the first litter was a premie...I hope thats spelled right. Anyway her belly was swelled up large with yolk, and it is smaller but still there. She does crawl some but not like the others. Also I was told of a condition called Hard Belly, and would like to know more about it. Is there anything I can do to get her to absorb the yolk faster? Any help would be appreciated. Andy

A while back he posted something regarding hardbelly, it pretained to albinos most, as it seems more prevalent in baby albinos especially from albino mothers.

The faster he'll digest the yolk. I've never had this problem. I'm just thinking the warmer, the better especially when it comes to digestion. Just my thoughts. Dave E.T.R.

When you say "premie" do you mean that it was released prior to the rest of the litter as in premature? I've never heard of that; cool!

As good as the help can be sometimes on these forums, I'd suggest getting veterinary help from a vet with lots of herp experience.

Good luck with your snakes

The baby is a premie because the female had over half the litter was slugs, and the baby was most likely several days early. although the other 12 were fine. The yolk went into belly, but the overall size of snake was very small. Smaller head and length etc...so far she is ok, but I feel a small bump inside gut ...it may be an organ, but wanted to make sure I know what to do. The vets in this area are good for dogs and such but I have no faith in them with reptiles. Andy
