housing bearded dragons together

marktrac Feb 23, 2005 05:28 PM

I have a beardie that is about 6 yrs old. He(?)has been by himself since 10wks of age. A friend of mine has a 2-3 yearold male (also has always been alone) that is is thinking about finding a new home for if I can take him. I am not 100% sure of the gender of mine, when he was younger the vet said she thought mine was a male but my beardie seems much smaller than my friend's. Would it be risky to put the two of them together? Both are healthy so my biggest worry would be fighting, thanks for all thought on the matter.

I, and most people on this forum, don't recommend housing two beardies together. If they are both males, then DEFINATELY no, males are aggressive towards each other and will fight. A male and female should not be permanently housed together because of the stress on the female from overbreeding from the male (and, she WILL lay eggs, and you need to have the supplies to care for all the eggs and babies when they hatch.)I've heard people keep two females together with no problems, but its not guaranteed that they will never fight with each other, and you have to make sure you have a big enough elclosure to house the two comfortably, with enough room for them to get away from each other. Its best for you and the animals to keep them housed seperately.
