What species?

I know this will sound irresponsible, but I found this little guy in a petco, accidentally marked as a house gecko. As the cage right next to him had a dead house gecko in it, i decided to get him, and i got him for the "geen house gecko" price of 6.99, rather than the listed "grey mottled day gecko" price of 64.99. I've been doing nothing but reading about day geckos since i got him, and I think i have a pretty good begining for a home for him. 20 gallon tank with bed-a-beast for substrate, Some living bamboo for extra hiding and comfort and humidity, and a small folliage plant in the other corner. Temp of about 90 in the basking spot, and about 70 in the cool corner under the hidy hole. I'm trying to link some pics, but i'll post the link to my site too.

Looks like a Gold Dust to me, Phelsuma laticauda.

Hello
I 100% sure it's a Phelsuma comorensis, they are from the Comoro Islands. Many people have been selling them as Phelsuma lineata lineata but they are not. I well planted tank with bamboo and good lighting with a basking spot will make him very happy. Mist enclosure 2 times a day to keep humidity up and feed him crickets 2 times a week and babyfood one time a week. They are easy to breed and a great beginner day gecko.
Good luck!

Thanks a lot!!!! Out of curiosity, how may could i safely have in an 20 gallon? in my reading alot of peple have said one pair, and others have said, 1 male, 2 female. Also, and this might be wierd, but would it be possible to have house geckos in the same cage? I'm thnking because house geckos are nocturnal.... but my guess is that it would work.

You could probably set up a trio in a 20 gallon, IF it is well planted and has lots of cover. Don't add house geckos--and don't forget to get your little guy checked for parasites asap....who knows what was in his pet store cage before he was.

House geckos will almost certainly be carrying parasites, and you don't want to transmit them to your day gecko. Just not a good idea.

I believe it is a Lined Day Gecko.

LOL!!! I got three of them from Petco and even did better. I got $2.00 off ea one with my Petco card. They laid eggs and I hatched out the babies successfully.

They are lined day geckos.

I used to have one that looked exactly like that one. Maybe you're the one who saved it from the pet store before someone else I knew of that was going to later. I'm glad it now has a responsible owner.

a late response but it looks like P.lineata chloroscelis sp. a red blotched day gecko.
