Dusting Food

Nicoleo Feb 23, 2005 06:34 PM

I've noticed a lot of posts about dusting the geckos food and the problems not dusting their food can cause. My problem is that my male won't eat anything thats been dusted. If I dust his crickets he waits until they go in his water dish to get the dust off or until it rubs off before he'll eat them. I'm using T-Rex Leopard Gecko Dust on his food. I'm not sure if he doesn't like the taste of the dust on the food or what but if there's a better dust I'd like to know so I could try it to see if he'll eat it.

I recommend either, rep-cal w/ vit D3 and rep-cal herptivite. You can get these at www.lllreptile.com

I have the same problems when I dust with vitamins. They taste nasty. I've tried like 5 diff brands of herp vitamins, too, same problems. I have to trick them into eating one cricket well dusted with vitamin dust per week and if I can do that I'm lucky. That's why I buy vitamin dust, calcium dust, and calcium/d3 dust all separately. They need the calcium way more than the vitamins so I dust with that more often and they don't mind the taste. and I dust with calcium/d3 about once a week (adults) because the d3 can be toxic in large amounts. And I wait till they're real hungry then give them one vitamin dusted cricket and hope they eat it before they taste it!!!
