Side shots of big bend snake

tredding Feb 23, 2005 09:02 PM

Hey alice here are the shots you asked for. I appreciate the help from anyone on the ID. I am trying to track down some food for this guy and want to feed this weekend. I hope I can get it going. I will post some shots of the setup next.
Thanks everyone
Travis

second shot showing the blotch on his head. Probably the reason for speculation of being a blackheaded snake.

Ground Snake, Sonora semiannulata.

I have no experience keeping these though I have caught a few. They are a burrowing species that feeds on centipedes, spiders, scorpians and the like. I would certainly try crickets and maybe even silk worms. I would be inclined to use a cricket dust or calciuum suppliment as well. Keep the cage simple and count the food items you introduce. It is probably the only way to know if he is feeding regularly or not.

Keep us posted,

Randy

I agree with everything Randy said, and it's definately a western groung snake.

In Stebbins the list the diet as consistig of spiders, scorpions, centipedes, solopugids, crickets, grasshoppers, and insect larvae.

Good lick!
Alice
