Satanic questions (uroplatus noob).

psylynt Feb 23, 2005 09:56 PM

I've got my first pair of U. Phantasticus. Wild caught. I believe the male is about full grown. The female looks significantly smaller than the male. The male has a very 'leafy camo' look to it. Really spectacular. Female is pretty, just much darker.

I've got a few questions if anyone's got time.

From pics I've seen, adult males and females look rougly the same size. Is this true?

The female I received today was dehyrated as the tail was folded on the sides. I placed her in an enclosure & misted VERY thoroughly. I could see her drinking occasionally. Good sign I suppose. Her tail also began to unfold a little after a few hours.

It's 9:45 pm. I got the geckos 10 am this morning. Was curious if her tail should have been straightened out completely by now, or if this is typical? It is still somewhat folded under near the base of the tail & on one side.

Does a leaf tail that has suffered from dehydation have a greater chance of being a problematic animal? i.e. could she die from it later/have future health problems from it?

Can someone tell me the weights of males & females for successful breeding to occur?

Does anyone have any suggestions for feeding lobster roaches? They're super easy to care for. They don't make noise. Really nutritous. They're just hard as hell to catch. And, it's hard to feed roaches in a cup or container w/o them little buggers crawing right out.

Mine seem to be hunting now (also a good sign I'd imagine). They're both hangin from pothos vines facing the substrate. Seems like they're waiting for something to crawl by. I let 4 smaller roaches go in their enclosures. Hopefully they'll find a few.

I appreciated any help/comments/advice that any might have.

in my experience, dehydration is something that can take a couple of weeks to straighten out, if only it was as fast as that....

as for the lobster roaches, im not experienced with those. satanics are pretty small and dont get large at all, so unless lobster roaches are tiny i would recommend small crickets.

Thanks for the response. Makes me feel a little better about the female & her tail.

As for the lobster roaches... they breed like crazy. Small roaches are not a problem. There's young ones all over their little enclosure. It's me catching them little guys to put in the cage thats 'super challenging.'

Any tips on that anyone?

Lobster roaches are very soft bodied too. I've seen my cresteds as juvenilles take down some really big roaches w/o too much trouble.

i would suggest maybe putting something in that would attract them, maybe a small cardboard tube with some food inside or something. that way they'd crawl in there and eat, and you could just shake em out into a plastic bag or whatever. hope it works.

I have found that the lobsters have difficulty climbing if you dust them with a calcium/vitamin powder. They could be fed out of a dish at that point. Once the dust is off of them its back to climbing up the glass though.
