Unusual Clutch, but nice surprise

bradford cole Jul 07, 2003 08:21 PM

This clutch was the result of breeding a Double Het. male (Albino & VPI Axanthic) to a VPI Axanthic female. What hatched out surprised me. I hatched one of these out 2 years ago but it only lived 2 weeks and never took food. I am pretty sure I know where (or who in my collection is responsible) this little trait comes from. Who knows if it is genetic? Who really cares it is just plain neat. Most would liken it to a classic jungle but it has a severally reduced pattern and absolutely no white edging. It does however have the pale eyes and classic solid black and bright yellow.

Here they are after they have all left their eggs.

Aww, I love Axanthic babies. Too bad they darken with age.

3.3.1 Ball Pythons

This is the mother of the unusual clutch.

Ok....My next ball will be axanthic. You know how something just strikes you as perfect?? As something you HAVE to have? I love the black and white ball pythons. I've never seen one prior to this forum, and now it's an obsession. Looks like I'll be driving to NY soon...maybe they'll have some at the Expo?

Sigh...

I totally agree - I NEED an Axanthic! I didn't ever know anything about snakes before I got here, all because my boyfriend bought us a normal BP. Now I'm totally in love. I hear these b/w BP's go for tons of money... a few grand... that's pretty discouraging (the kids have to eat, then comes the mortgage, THEN the snakes on down the list a little...)

any ideas?

Lol...it's all a matter of priority. I bought a baby bearded dragon and a new cage for my 1 year old BP before paying my rent....(slow mail due to the holiday..heheheh). I DO feed my kids before the snake. Usually. If I could get the 4 kids to take F/T rats, I'd be all set. I bet the cats would love it. Maybe the breeders would consider the barter system in exchange for a baby axanthic?
