What am i doing wrong?!?!?

ReptileManiac300 Feb 24, 2005 10:34 AM

Can anyone help me. I'm currently trying to breed my leopard geckos though i'm not having much sucess. They are about two years old and have had eggs before but the eggs seem to be infertile or something. No matter what i do the eggs seem to collapse and then after a while they dry up. I've been giving my female a lot of calcium and i kept the eggs in a fairly humid box at about 82 degrees farenhiet constantly. What am i doing wrong?

Im sorry i can't be of more help but we need to know a lot more about your set up and your animals before we can tell you what you may be doing "wrong."

How many leo's do you have together, just one male and one female or more?
What is the cage set up, temps, etc etc?
What process of breeding attempts have you tried already?
Have you seen the leo's actually mate before?

Try to be a litte bit more detailed about how you attempted to breed them and then hopefully we can give you some pointers to help you in the right direction!

Hello, I keep my leos in seperate tanks. I had bought them about two years ago from a lady that had posted them in a nickels worth article. They are perfectly healthy. I placed the female into the males tank and left them alone for the night. I didn't see them breed but i did watch the famale lay her eggs twice. the second time i think i was an hour late. I gently took the eggs and placed them in a plastic container with a heat pad under neath, some bark and about 1/2 water. The temp stayed at 82 but i'm not sure my humidity stayed constant. the eggs seem to kind of collapse on themselves after a couple of minutes and my female just plopped them onto the sand in front of me. I tried to give her a humid cave but she sleeps in their so i think that's why she didn't use it. one set of eggs seemed fertile but i'm not sure. Thank you!

Well it could have something to do with you method of incubation..... Are you using an incubator???? What type of substrate are you using and what is the exact ratio of water to substrate???? How long after the eggs are layed, do you find them???? There are a binch of variables that can be causing your eggs to go bad..... We need more info on what you are doing exactly....
