Whats wrong with my gecko

JonnyAlbino Feb 24, 2005 11:18 AM

I got 2 leopard geckos for my birthday a little more than a month ago. 1 leo and 1 tremper albino. They are babies. lately ive noticed that my leo has a much bigger tail than my tremper and that my tremper's tail is like pencil thin. Then i woke up this morning and i noticed white stuff coming out of the albinos anus. Im thinking that this is a possible impaction but i do not know alot about leopard geckos so i just need some help with this.

Do you have them on sand?

It's tail in pencils thin? That doesn't sound good at all especially since there is now stuff coming out of it's anus. I would take it to the vet asap. Where did you get them? What are your cage temps? What do you have as the substrate in the tank? I would seperate the albino from the other one and put him on paper towels. Have either of them eaten yet? Hopefully we can figure something out..good luck!

I got him at petco, the temp. is almost always 75-80, for the substrate i use calci-sand, and he is eating just noty as much as the tremper and i think i will bring him to the vet

Hmm..petco gecko are usually very malnurished and they often have parasites. Do you have a UTH (under the tank heater)? You should have a cool side as well as a warm side for your geckos. The cool side should be atleast 78* to 82* and the warm side should be almost 90*. Calci sand isn't a very good substrate, it's even worse than reg sand since when it gets wet it clumps up in their stomach. If you really want to use sand wait unitl they are adults and then get some reg play sand. Do either of them seem dehydrated? Try to get a vet appointment and keep us updated.

I got two leo's at petco recently and the same thing happened. i didn't have problems with impaction because they weren't on sand but one of them just got very thin, i seperated them immediately but it was too late, they both already had parasites. Its been three weeks and i am still fighting to keep them going. Don't delay, seperate them, raise the temps, get them off the calci-sand and get them to the vet asap.

good luck!!
