Glaring at the Birds

Ike has recently taken to sitting on top of the bird cage, and I caught this pic of him and the cockatiel staring each other down.

Ooh, be careful! A cockatiel might not be able to do too much damage, but toes in a cage are hard to resist.

We thought of this and have been watching him carefully while he's up there. I was actually more concerned about the budgie than the cockatiel, as she seems to be the more aggressive of the two, but they seem to at least accept, if not love, his presence up there.

My iguana used to do the same with a not-so-friendly love bird of ours. The bird used to bite everyone except its main owner, my sister. The major problem we had was the iguana knocking the bird cage on its side. The funny thing was, the bird and my iguana turned out to be the bestest of friends, and when the bird died 5 years ago, my iguana actually went into a state of depression and wouldn't eat on his own for two weeks. But long before the two of them became friends, my iguana's tail did get bit once, and surprisingly, the tiny love bird did do some serious damage. Since a cockatiel is much bigger than a love bird, I'd be really careful.

I appreciate the concern, but I don't think it will be an issue anymore... We brought a tokay gecko into the house the other day and our little green monster somehow figured out from across the room that the gecko cage is as high as the birdcage, and heated as well. He tossed everything off of the shelves getting to the top so he could lay on the cage. So I think he's lost his cage privleges for a while, at least. And before you tell me that the gecko is more dangerous than the bird, believe me, I know :-0 Little bugger is padlocked in his cage to keep cats and kids out.
