Question on growth and feeding

kingofspades Feb 24, 2005 03:58 PM

Damien feeds once a week on a large mouse. I've had him now for about 3 months and he doesn't seem to be getting much bigger. The girl who had him before me had him for a year or so. He's about 2 feet long.
He's healthy and active and has a great appetite.
I was debating switching him to rat pups. My problem is, he only eats live mice.
Should I try switching him to f/t mice first and THEN onto rat pups?
I heard that rats cause more growth in Ball pythons.

thanks in advance.

I have mouse feeders that grow just as well as rat feeders (the mouse feeders also have better muscle tone), but it all comes down to the snakes genetics, some grow quicker than others even when fed the exact same amount. Try feeding him two adult mice per week instead of one and you will notice a growth spurt (probably).

Also, If you can get him to eat rats, do it, that way you wont have to feed him multiple meals when he is larger.
