need help making some albinos.

theboahouse Feb 24, 2005 04:56 PM

I have all breedable size and age females and males. But i have a few Questions before I start breeding.

Question: I have a Guyana Female that i want to pair up with an albino male and a Female Peruvian also i would like to pair up with the albino whats my probability of albinos? the Peruvian and the guyana do not hold the albino gene.

Question: I wanted to know if the Bolivians and the Columbian Albinos are compatable for breeding together.

Thanks for your help. Tim

I am no expert, but if neither of your females are het for the albino gene then I would guess that your chances of getting albinos are slim to nill. If you breed them to your male this year you will get hets, but they will look like regular guyanas and peruvians. I would recommend selling most of the hets, hold back your favorites, grow them up, and then breed them back to the male. When you breed hets to albinos, a few of your litter should be albinos as well. There are sites out there that will show you the gene table (remember in high school having to draw out the boxes for dominate and recesive genes? thats what it's all about) So to answer your question you should have albinos in about 3-4 years. Best of luck!

You will not get any albinos in those breedings. Albinism is a recessive trait, so both parents must carry the gene. In your two breedings, all of the babies will be het for albino.
As for the Bolivian albino, it does not exist as far as I know.

On a side note: there are two different strains of Colombian albinos: Kahl strain and Sharp strain. These two are not compatible.

Hope this helps,
Matt

If you want albinos just get a female albino or het for albino for your male. If you ask me leave the BCI,s with the BCi's and bolivians with the bolivians etc.
