? about night heat bulbs

Cdp75 Feb 24, 2005 06:25 PM

I've had several from petsmart that were red and they always blow after a few days. While I was at wal-mart getting house bulbs, I noticed they had a night time heat bulb. So, I got it.
Well, it puts out heat and does a great job except for it's a black light. Will this interupt night time behavior?
I use them for my toads, map turtles and for one of my guinea pigs(my house gets cold at night).

I use that same type bulb for my snakes at night as it gets like 65 here at night. They are great bulbs and dont interupt anything.
suprised you would need it for your gunea pigs tho would think some type of house with hay would be enough since warm blooded but either way those bulbs are great.

Hey thanks for your reply! I've been using this bulb on my FBT at night and they seem to be ok with it. It just seems so bright.
As far as my pigs, I only use it for one of them. He's not a normal guinea pig...has some deformatity probelms and shivers when it's cold in the house.

If you go to like those night animal exhibits in zoos they use those bright red bulbs to the animals cant see the light but we can see them.
I am suprised your other bulbs burnt out so fast. I use ESU or zoo med red incandescent bulbs they last for a months to a year.
Either way they are great and safe heat for night. I thought after I answered your post that your gunea pig might be a hairless type glad your caring for him.
