Kidney problems

wulfyoukai Feb 24, 2005 08:40 PM

I've read that kidney failure causes the most deaths in iguanas. How do I tell if my iggy really has kidney problems? I researched some symptoms and actually found some matches - loss of appetite and weight, increased thirst. Besides bringing her to the vet, are there any other ways I can help treat her?

How old is your iguana? Kidney's usually fail from 7 years on.
Only a blood test will tell you what is wrong for sure.

Zade's only about 3 years old. Could there be other problems that affect his diet?

MBD would be more common at this age. Worms can be an issue too.
What is the diet and do you have a new UVB light on your iguana?

Finally got Zadey to the vet - turns out she's got eggs.

I feed her mustard greens, romaine lettuce, kale, grapes, bananas, and blueberries. Vet said I should feed her more greens and get her in the light more since she's a free roaming iggy.

Thanks for your help, Cindy!
