Beginning a pit breeder project...

Shaky Feb 07, 2003 03:43 PM

I have had one pit for a few years, and am looking to get another couple. Trouble is, I don't know what to choose.
I'm looking for something a little bit "different."
If you were just getting into pits for the 1st time, what would you choose?
Thanks,
Jack

My favorites are the Bechtel strain Albino S.D. gophers and also the snows. I also like the Albino Florida Pines.

That is a very hard question to answer, since all pits are awesome!

The ones that did it for me as far as getting me so into pits are the Applegate Albino San Diego gophers and Northern pines.

Take care!

Hello,

Well, my experience w/ Pits is very limited. I only have a pair of Albino Sonoran Gophers but they are Great!!
From what info I have been able to gather, they are one of the smaller Pits. Along w/ the San Diego Gophers. I have heard that Sonorans are easier to breed than San Diego Gophers. Both have several different color morphs. I am currently in the process of getting a pair of Hypo Sonoran Gophers later this summer from gofer.(Someone who visits this forum). Other morphs include Ghosts, Hybino, Snow.....

We have a fairly large number of pits and if I had to pick my top two favorites it would be bull snakes for size and number of man made color morphs and the Duranago mt. gophers ( deppei deppei ) for naturally occuring color morphs. One thing you should realize though is that any pit is habit forming and will ruin you towards keeping other colubrids.LOL
