My bp hasn't gone #2 yet

kdp6376 Feb 25, 2005 06:49 AM

I feed my bp every 3 days, I have since I got him and he always goes #2 evry 3 days, it's been a week now and he hasn't. He looks large near his tail, has for several days now, like he does normally before he goes potty. Has anyone else had this happen to thier snake? Any advice? Thanks.

Have you tried a warm water soak yet? Fill a clean sink or a Tupperware bowl with warm water and submerge as much of your snake as possible. He may really wriggle a lot at first, but be persistent and let him soak for up to I'd say 10 minutes. This will relax him and usually encourages defecation.

If not, you could try a snake sauna. This is wonderful for constipation and shedding issues. Here’s how you do it:

Get a small plastic container (depending on the size of the snake, a
rubbermaid see-thru bin with a lid & holes poked in or even a plastic
kritter keeper will do).

Place a towel or washcloth on the bottom of the container (whatever you
place at the bottom should be large enough to cover the entire bottom).

Put enough lukewarm water to just barely (completely) cover the towel.
I test the water by running it on the inside of my wrist (what you
would do for testing a baby's bottle).

Place the snake in this small enclosure and set it on top of a human
heating pad, set to low (make sure it's not the type of heating pad
that shuts off automatically). Monitor the water temp every 15 minutes
or so to make sure it's not too hot. If it is, move the container so
that only half of it is on the heating pad.

What I also do when using kritter keepers with the vented lids is place
another washcloth on the top of the enclosure's lid. This washcloth is
soaked in hot water and wrung out well so that it won't drip. I change
this every 15 minutes or so when it's gone cold. This provides extra
humidity.

I leave the snake in this container for anywhere from 1/2 hr to a
couple of hours.

I hope one of these works for you! I know how it is being worried.

This may sound 150,000% totally crazy but clean his cage inside and out new substrate everything you would normally do so u can look at it and say that cage is clean and within a day or 2 he will poop right in it, out of my 18 bp's 15 do it and it is a p.i.t.a

I don't think it's so smart to feed your Ball python every 3rd day. It sounds like powerfeeding.
