New tank...

kavanaugh_j Feb 25, 2005 10:42 AM

I just recently moved my leo into a fairly large tank (about 3ft long) and i have 2 hides, food/water dish in there, and i was just wondering what some people have used to 'decorate' the tank a little. Looks very plain when i look at it and im looking for some suggestions. THanks in advance.

For starters i'd get some sort of background or make your own rock wall(There has been help guides for them) I'd also put in more hides than 2 in a 30 gal. Add some cactus plants maybe too and a bit of colour! Leo's also like to climb so maybe a branch or two. Gilbery007

If you do get cacti, be sure that you get ones that aren’t spiny. You don’t want them to get pricked! There should be several varieties of succulents available at your local nursery. Succulents are basically desert plants that generally have large, fat leaves and no/soft spines. Several varieties stay quite small. They are very nice for adding color, and give an “authentic” look.

For a substrate, I like to use slate tiles that have been broken to make interesting shapes (be sure to soften the sharp edges). You can stack them to cover the gaps from the first layer. It’s also possible to make hides by using clear silicone (let it dry at least 48 hr). It is more work then paper towels, and can weigh a lot depending on how much you put inside...but it looks great. I recently switched from paper towels to slate, and my geckos seem to love it. They’re exploring much more actively then they did on the towels.

You can go to my site (link in sig)and there's a page called "Themes". Click on it and there are alot of different decor ideas.
