5 foot Guyanan Female - Atty-tude Problemo...

tcdrover Feb 25, 2005 11:25 AM

My female Guyanan's temperament appears to be changing for the
worse.

She is docile, but seems edgy and afraid all the time. She
doesn't want to come out of her cage usually. Once I get her
out she calms down completely but only after some time.
(About 1/2 hr).

When she was younger she didn't seem to mind. I can and do
still handle her even when she's in the blue. She's never even
hissed at me, but she does jerk away when I try and take her out now.

A couple of weeks ago I left her cage door open to see if she
would eventually come out on her own. I ended up forgetting to
close it and found her on the book shelf next to the rack the
next day. Is this typical behaviour, maybe due to her still
being only about 2-3 years old and in a growth phase?

Although temperment can change it is usual that it would change for the better, BUT its not unheard of for it to change for the worse... I would think that she will settle back down again after a small handling session. I would just say that you should handle her a little more for the next few weeks and see if that helps her calm down... If not i would say that maybe she's a little hungry.. up her feed and handle her a little more and then you should be alright... keep us updated.!
