Has anyone heard of NERD's?

ssjenny1 Feb 25, 2005 02:58 PM

I've heard they were pretty good, and I'm going this weekend to hopefully buy my first ball from them, and was hoping if anyone has some feedback about their experience with them? Also any info on picking out your first ball would be helpful, I've dealt only in cornsnakes so far.

I hear they're pretty good, but I personally haven't bought from them. Check out the BOI.

BUT Before you buy from a breeder at a show, check out these pointers:

1. Do your homework BEFORE you go to the show. Learn all you can before you buy. Buy a good book about ball pythons. Call some breeders, ask questions. Join your local herpetology club. You may meet people there with your same reptilian interests. Have your habitat set up before you make your purchase.

2. While at the show, have fun. Look around, talk to the vendors. Please remember not all vendors are breeders. Have questions already thought out that you wish to ask sellers about the ball pythons they are selling that you may be interested in purchasing.

3. Whenever possible, buy captive bred from a responsible individual. We can not stress this enough. You are buying a snake that can live 40+ years. Spending a little more for a quality ball python will save you a bundle in the end. Avoid buying one from a tank filled with ball pythons. Make sure the ball python you are buying is alert, healthy and free of mites and ticks.

4. Get the name and information of the person you are buying from at the show. We can not even begin to count the number of phone calls and emails we receive from people who have recently bought a snake at a show and it will not eat, it has mites, ticks or in some cases it has died after a few days. When we suggest they contact the person that they purchased the snake from many times they do not know who they were or how to get in touch with them. Spend the extra money and get a quality snake from a quality breeder.

5. After you have made your purchase and leave the show, be sure to take your new snake directly home. Too many times people decide to stop here or there and they leave their new snake in a hot car and it dies. There are also times when the container is not secure enough and the snake escapes into the car.

If you mean New England Reptile Distributors - you don't get much better than that. They are top quality (the snakes and the people). If you need it, they'll hold your hand the whole way through. Any questions you have they can help you with.

Awesome, that's exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'm touring their facility tomorrow in search of our next baby. Hope our new experience with a meatier snake than the corn is just the beginning in a new obsession.

NERD, Yes I have heard of them, I have never purchased anything from them but to my knowledge they are some of the best in the business and not to mention they have a ton of awesome ball pythons I would just love to own, I should be getting something from them this season if all goes as planned. But I have seen them at shows and they seem to be very helpful and nice. I even got to take pictures of the high end Spider morphs all together in Daytona. Thanks David

You said you're going there right???

Once you start seeing all their incredible animals you will want them all.

You will likely be temped to mortgage your kids just to get a few more.

Maybe that’s just me???

Just kidding great animals great people. I’m saving my money for something new, just so I can take a tour of the new facility, I haven’t seen it yet.

Enjoy yourself

That's the only thing I'm worried about too, just checking out their website is incredible, and I'm sure pics don't do some of these babies justice. Tomorrow I'll give you all an update when I get back to let you know if this place is as amazing as it sounds...plus let you know if I come back with anything!

Has anyone heard of NERD's? = Has anyone heard of Rolls Royce?

Bought my BP from Kevin (NERD) at a show. He understood it was just going to be a pet, not a breeder or special morph, and still took the time to help me choose a nice female CB BP even though it wasn't a big sale for him. Good price for a guaranteed CB too!

NERD is unbelieveable. Kara and Kevin are amazing and are willing to help you through the whole process. I wouldn't purchase a snake from anyone else.
