Tegu Lack Of Calcium

Eros Feb 25, 2005 05:59 PM

Hello all,
1 week ago a friend of mine gave me his young columbian black and white tegu, it seems to have a respitory infection as well as a lack of calcium. I brought it to the vet just now, he gave it 3 shots, and gave me 10 needles with antiodics to inject with 1 needle each day. Luckily, since i'm planning on being a veterinarian, before today, i was capable of giving him some other stuff to keep his health from declining. My main Question is......
Will the deformed, and toes that have fallen of grow back???

Thanks
Eros JN

Bones that are slightly deformed from MBD may return to a semi-normal state but not very often. Lost toes do not regenerate.

If you need a response and I am not here contact me below.

No, they will not grow back. Any deformities will most likely not return to normal, especially if the MBD has been occuring for a long period of time. If he is an adult now there is no chance that even with supplements and calcium his bones will return to normal. Check out the picture of my tegu, he had MBD when he was young and is now an 3 year old "adult" at 21". Good luck with your guy and be sure to give him lots of calcium!
