Playing with food...

today my savanna monitor did something weird with his mouse. Usually, i feed him everyday, he takes down the mouse as soon as he realizes its there. I put it in a bowl for him(they are always F/T). Today he dragged it around for awhile and got it all dirty. Then he kept nibbling at the mouses feet. this went on for a few minutes. then he caught eye that i was watching and he darted into his hide. i washed the mouse off and put it back in his food bowl. i left for a hour or so and the mouse was eaten when i got back. has anyone else seen this happen?
the temps are, 75 on the cool side, 90-95 hot side, 133 basking spot, also he is almost 20 inches long

If my guys are not hungry they ignore the mice and rats. If they are hungry the rodents are down their throats in a blink of an eye. Sometimes I have to feed Tripod a mouse before the killer instinct kicks in and he runs down a rat. It seems that he likes mice better. I actually have seen him kill a rat and then not eat it, but he would eat mice at the same time. I guess mice tast better.

That hasn't happend to me. Whenever I even put a mouse next to Artimus's cage he goes for it. I can put 4 in his cage and he'll chomp them all down like noodles.
