you bet there should be. You should have P. californiucs and P. subnitidus. Near as I can figure those would be the only species in that neck of the woods.

Gordon,
Thanks for the info. Before I got my first lizard I looked all over the place but couldn't find any pogos just messor, I guess I have to look harder though. I have an idea where some pogos may be, I found an area the only area where I have seen adult CHLs so that would probably be where I need to look. The other CHLs have all been near messor nests and those were just juveniles. Thanks for the info, what kinds of habitat best suit the pogos, what types of areas would I most likely see them at?
Should I look in the chapparel, or the grassy areas? Thanks again for the info.

Pogos, typically are found in more open areas than Messor andrei is although there will always be exceptions to the rule. Messor will tend to be more active in the morning or afternoon hours, Pogos, more active during the heat of day. P. californicus is a lower elevation and while P. subnitidus likes a bit of elevation.
Hey,
I had to come out to CA this weekend so I took a look around your area. Good news and bad news.....
I found P. Californicus near Moorpark. Take the E. Los Angeles ave exit near the MP College. Go down over the tracks just past the moble home park on the right and park on the side of the road. Cross the road and hike up to the railroad tracks. Cross the tracks and walk toward Simi. You'll find some up there. I also found many by the tracks off Condor drive behind the school. Problem was, every hole of Pogos was being attacked by the argentine ants.
Very sad. The wet year isn't helping in that respect I'm afraid.
You should be able to search similar areas and find more. If there are some, there are many. It's just a matter of finding the concentrations.
Good luck man!
