Leo suddenly stopped eating/being active....

-ryan- Feb 25, 2005 11:42 PM

Nothing has changed in his environment really as far as temps or anything. I know that the weather around here has been strange (getting warmer and then cooling back down). I don't know if that would really have much of an impact though. Basically, he went from being fairly active (at night and in the morning hours), and eating 6-9 medium crickets every day or two, to suddenly just keeping to the cool hide and eating maybe 3 crickets in the past week (a couple days ago...he ate them, pooped, and then went back to sleeping). He's around 8-9 monthes old right now, so not yet fully grown. Even without eating there isn't really a noticable weight loss. Being a juvi, he had sort of a slim build to begin with. His tail hasn't shrunken down as far as I can see.

So should I be worried, or is it just something related to weather change? Or possibly related to stress? I have been practicing my drums more lately... they're down in the basement so where the leo is they aren't too loud. It's a thought though. I would think that if this is the case, he would be losing weight and stuff. He fecals, though very few, are very healthy looking.

Just not quite sure what's going on. Can anybody lend some advice?

I woudl take a fecal to the vet, always the best place to start when you have a leo with decreased appetite and activity. The sooner the better!

Do you have any other geckos around??
Ive heard of people having females who stopped eating right around spring because the phermones in the air. What is your feeding patterns?? It is important that you take out all the crickets that a gecko does not eat because if he has crickets walking all over him with him having no appetite, he will soon become disgusted at the thought of eating one. If there are crickets in his enclosure, I suggest you take them all out, let him build a appetite for about 4 days, then feed him crickets one by one and monitor his intake. Take out the last cricket if he shows no interest in eating it.
