Do the water monitors burrow alot? I have Argus now and am thinking of getting 2 speckled waters. Do keepers keep them on deep dirt substrate? do they burrow in it a lot? or do they stay in water and trees more?

They do not dig multiple big burrows like an argus. My salvators all seem to prefer leaf litter, or other more loose substrate over dirt.

They do not spend all day in the water, they just spend more time in it then other monitors. When young they will climb readily but as they get larger they do not seem to prefer it.

Speckleds can stil get large I have seen 6 footers. So be prepared for a large bulky lizard. I do not know of anyone
producing them so more then likely they will be imports.
