Severe shedding problem...Help!

wingl Feb 26, 2005 08:26 AM

My 2yr old Puelan Milk has never had a problem shedding until about 2 months ago. That's when I realized that it hadn't shed in a while. I checked his tank and all the numbers were right, but the halogen bulb I was using for heat and light was drying out the snake. This had happened before on another snake with higher humidity needs so I wasn't worried. I no longer used the light and started soaking him and increased humidity to help him shed. The skin was starting to show dryness, like shedding gone bad. Nothing seems to be helping him shed. I've tried shed assist spray, olive oil, rough pieces of wood inside to give him a place to start the shed, everything I could find on the net. Anyone have any ideas? It's starting to look as if he has about 2 layers of unshed skin on him now.

I can think of only two things,
A, to give him a humidity box with something like wet sphaghnum moss or paper towel inside (watching carefully for mold of course) or
B, try taking him to a good herp vet. It sounds rough enough that by now, B may be your best option. I wish you luck.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried putting him in a tupperware with moist towels in it for a week, changing each day to make sure no bacteria or mold built up. No luck. I guess B is my only option.

Pretty funny signature. I guess if the WC 1.0 mate doesn't work out, you can start looking for a CB 1.0 instead.

Well, hopefully the vet can help.
Thanks, LOL! Yeah, I'll certainly consider a CB or a CH 1.0 mate. But even that may be hard to find.
