Another great day in the chondro world...........

Brandon Osborne Feb 26, 2005 03:56 PM

This female is from my '01 SCZ clutch. She was bred to my Paradox male a few months ago, and is now ovulating as I type this. Hopefully, they will add some new blue blood into the world of chondros.

Breeding pics.

These are the most color accurate pics, but they'll get better. Here's a better pic of what the male actually looks like.

These 2 have been kept in a Sterlite rack I made about 2 years ago. Both were bred in the same rack, which uses the 73qt. tubs found at Wal-Mart for about $5 ea.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks Charlie. The breeding part is finished. Now I just have to patiently wait on eggs, hope their fertile, and get them to hatch. That's the stressful part. lol. It was great talking to you the other night. Keep in touch.

thanks

Best of luck with that pairing. I was wondering what type of heating you used with your with this setup. Take it easy.

Thanks Tom. For this rack, I use a fiberglass heat pad ran down the back. It gets shut off at lights out with the rest of the room. This was an experiment I made a couple of years ago, just to see how well chondros would do in a tub setting. I'm waiting on new cages now, so they'll be happy in a large 24" cube......hopefully. The female has be notorious for going off feed in larger inclosures and has always preferred tubs.

Thanks Brandon. I wondered about keeping chondros in tubs but didnt think heat tape would be safe enough once it got hot enough to get the air temp in the mid to high 80's. I'm working on a hinged top box that works with plastic tubs. Once I get it built I will post some pics. Take it easy.

is a slide in lidless system. I don't like the hassle of lids. This has worked out great so far. The only thing I don't like about it is, you don't get to fully view the animals. Other than that, it's perfect.
