What is this? I believe a newt...more info inside...

Hello, Let me start off my saying I know absolutely nothing about amphibians. I keep only snakes until know. I found this newt/salamander yesterday in Leominster, Ma and was wondering if anyone knew what it was. It is approximately 1 1/2" to 2". Unfortunately the picture isn't really showing just how orange he/she is. It is very bright orange with even brighter orange spots. I found it under a pine log. I've never seen anything like it. If you need any more info to identify, just let me know. I hope the link works, I just signed up so it's the first time I've tried it. Thanks, Scott Sullivan.

If anyone know a general care sheet for this animal or a general rundown of proper newt/salamander care that I could check out I'd appreciate it. Take care, Scott.

That's a Red-Eft it is a juvenile of a salamander that becomes aquatic called an Eastern Newt, feed it small worms, pin-head crickets, tiny slugs, ants, termites, and fruit flies. It's terrestril so set it up in a terrerium with a decent size water dish so when it's ready to become aquatic it can.

Oh and if you post on the salamander and newt forum they will be able to help you better.

It's much appreciated. I'll try posting on the other forum. Take care, Scott.
