"Bigger is better" when it comes to tank size?

sunfox Feb 26, 2005 06:34 PM

I'm hoping to buy some phants and wanted to know if phants enjoy a lot of room. I know some animals can stress out in a home that's too big and wanted to know if phants are like that. I currently have 2 10-gallon tanks and one 40-gallon tank available. I was thinking about putting them in the big 40-gallon with lots of foliage, branches, and a ton of hiding places.
All opinions are welcome.

Thanks everyone.

i currently have 3.1 in a 30 or 40 gal long, and they do very well in it. how many phants are we talkin about here? if its just a pair, i would say 10 to 20 gals should work. id say a 40 gal would be alright up to about 3.3 or so. never heard about being stressed out in too large of an enclosure, but it might be harder to keep the humidity up, and it might be harder for you to find them, and if you let your crix roam free, theres gonna be a lot more area for them to spread, so your gex might now be able to find them all as well. but if you put the crix in a cup, that problem is pretty much solved.

...Not to mention if they did breed and your female clutches some eggs in there... Good luck finding them... But on the flip side, she may be more apt to lay when given a wider selection of oviposition sites...
