Can an old female breed?

muup Feb 26, 2005 08:13 PM

Any advice would be appreciated. I have a female that is about 14 years old, 5-5.5' long but has never been bred. SHe is very heavy and healthy but has never seen a male. Can she still be bred or will there be any problems?

Older could be better suited here, 14 is not old by ball python standards, she can breed if in good condition (body weight)

FYI, the oldest ball python on record lived 47 years in a zoo. It is safe to asume they can live well into their thirties.

Good luck

I successfully bred a 13 year old LTC burgundy female last year and got 6 good eggs. She was on the small side, at just over 4 feet and weighing in at 2200g. She just recently ovulated again this year at 2600g and I palpated 7 enlarged follicles. So yes. I would imagine she will breed well into her 20's with a few years off in between just to get some weight back on.
