Slow tail wiggle

Kendergirl Feb 27, 2005 12:19 AM

I have 2 geckos, and I have seen the one that I thought was female do a very slow, deliberate tail wiggle. It looks like a snake slithering straight up in the air. Could this mean my female is actually a male? They are both very young, about 10g each. The other (which I was thinking was male) looks interested in the wiggle when he sees it (the same way he looks when hunting), but really doesn’t do anything else in response. I would think they would both be too young for any sexual displays. The first time I saw her do it, the other wasn't even within sight (in a hide).

As far as I know, it’s too early to sex them…but I was basing my guesses on body build. The one I think is female had a slim build and slim head, while the one I thought was male has a very broad head (nearly twice the size of the other’s head).

If you know what the wiggle is all about, it would help me a lot!

i got 2 leos also and my female used to do that i think it means like "stay away" but neway when my leos were younger i thought the bigger one was the girl too it turns out the bigger one is the female and the smaller one is male

they could be two males...

As I mentioned before, I'm really just guessing at their sex. At what time would I be able to tell for sure? Right now they're both so small (MAYBE 3 1/2" total). If I have 2 males, I need to get another encolsure before problems start. I've never seen any signs of aggression between them - just that tail wiggle from the one.

The slow tail wiggle is a warning, if I'm not mistaken, meaning "stay away". Both males and females do it. The tail vibration that males do is much different, and alot faster (enough to produce a sound when it's touching the carpet/wall/other stuff) So don't worry

This wiggle is very different from the hunting wiggle (which I love!). I'm still going to keep an eye on them to make sure there aren't any problems. Thanks to everyone who posted.
