Where can I get a cage?

phiber_optikx Feb 27, 2005 12:38 AM

I need to know where I can get a GOOD cage for a conda that will be able to hold it for about 2 years or more... I am not wanting to spend a lot of money on a 6 month solution.....

You could get an awesome cage from monster-cages.com. That's where I got all mine, and about to get another 6 foot cage in next week. For around $500 you could get a really nice 8'x30" cage. But you can really do any custom size you want. They offer payment plans while they are building them too, so that's always nice. If you order them broken down to save on shipping (what I do), they are REALLY easy to assemble also, all you really need is a screwdriver. I don't know if Vision or boaphile makes cages that big, let alone, they would be a lot more than $500. I guess the other route would be to build your own, but it would really cost about the same for equip. and wood, and for people like me it would cost a lot more, because of all the mistakes I would make. If you look around in the kingsnake classified adds, you can find monster-cages, boaphile, vision, and all the other cage comps. But if you want one that the conda can live in for awhile, I would go with an 8' long x 30"-4' wide cage, and monster cages offers best prices on them I'm pretty sure Good luck!

I like to build my own cages, its not hard at all. With basic tools you can build one in 30-45min. MY 4x2x1 cost me under $75. If you want instructions let me know. These are a few of the cages I built. You could even stain them if you like, Im just lazy, lol.

Hey all, just reading some posts. Just a reminder you are not supposed to use cedar or pine...as it can be harmful. I see the cages in the above text are made from ply-wood (pine). Just a thought....not sure how much it will effect the animal. Just food for thought.

Its the Cedar that is bad. These cages have so much epoxy on them that nothing will bother the snakes, its all how you seal it. I used precut plywood for the tops and bottoms $7 each, for the sides I used a 1x12 $8 for the slides I used two differant things but I like the aluminum the best. They are two pieces of U shaped aluminum side by side $7.50 each for four footers. The insides are sealed with Envirotex epoxy, I used two packages at $15 each. And then I used acrylic for the doors but thick plexiglass will work. For light I used under cabinet lights $10. These hold humidity super well, I average 70% more if they spill water everywere. Here is a closer look at the 4 footer.
