Giant Day Gecko lost her tail

ejtchr Feb 27, 2005 10:26 AM

I have two femal MGDG and one of them seems to have dropped her tail. Is this common? Why would this happen? Do I need to do anything special? She seems to be fine running around and eating. They are siblings less than a year old I have had them for most of that time. Recently I have been finding eggs inthe cage I don't kow if this has anything to do with it. I feed dusted crickets, super worms and fruit baby food. They are warm, well hydrated and are exposed to full spectrum lighting. Any info would be helpful.

I would think she had a fight with her cage mate. Many adult female grandis will not get a long as they mature and some will. Just keep a close eye on them.

Since they are siblings I hope you have 2 females. Females will lay infertile eggs when there isn't a male present. I just hope you don't have any inbreeding going on and if you do please don't incubate the eggs. The tail will grow back but it won't look like it did before. How big is your tank because that could be one of the reasons why there could have been a fight?
