Normal Growth Rates in Stars

j-cal Feb 27, 2005 10:41 AM

I know that this obviously can vary, but I'm curious as to the normal growth rates of stars. I know that they are reletively slow growing. I've heard that they can get to be 5 inches or so in 4-5 years. How large is a hatchling tho? I got 2 of mine at the end of last summer and in the past 6 months, I haven't noticed a change, but I just started measuring a couple weeks ago so I can gauge this. I'd estimate that they are about 9-12 months old (I was told that they were 2004 hatchlings). Currently, they are just under 2 inches each. I got another from the same guy that was a little older around christmas time. I was also sold to me as a 2004 hatchling, but it is about 2.25 inches, but appears much larger in width and height. It looks to be about half the size of a tennis ball, while the others look like a golf ball full sized. The larger one has lost the "baby tortoise" look. I can't quite explain how I view a "baby tortoise," but I am sure some of you can attest that there is such a thing.

Based on this information, are these exhibiting normal growth patterns? Do they tend to grow continuously, but slow, or grow in spurts of rapid growth spread in between times of little or no growht?

I'm not overly concerned. but I'd like to make sure that my guys are all on par so that if maybe there is a subtle problem it can be rectified. They seem healthy and normal so i guess I shouldnt worry. I was just curious if they were growing at the normal rate.
